Handyperson Service for Council Tenants

Since June 2007, the Agency has been able to make its Handyperson Services available to older and vulnerable disabled Council Tenants.

What can the Handyperson do for Council Tenants?

The Agency’s Handyperson Service can undertake some small-scale works, for which the tenant would normally be responsible, such as:

  • Installation of Door Bells
  • Putting up Shelving
  • Putting up Curtain Rails
  • Replacing Light Bulbs
  • Installing extra Telephone points
  • Replacing Letter-boxes
  • Security Upgrades (such as installing safety chains, or bolts)
  • Provision of Chair Raisers

The Handyperson cannot undertake works that would normally be the responsibility of the Council, as your Landlord.

The Handyperson cannot do any work that is above the height he can reach from his step ladder and he is not allowed to carry out any routine painting, decorating or gardening.

How Much will it Cost?

Like owner-occupiers and private tenants, in most cases, there will be a flat charge of £5.00 for up to 2 hours work, plus the cost of necessary materials used.
